Marine Chemical Spill Modeling

The most widely used marine chemical spill model, a combination Eulerian-Lagrangian model, has been proven to reliably predicting large scale chemical movement, but has not been evaluated for fine scale concentration accuracy in the marine environment.

The following are the objectives for this research:

  • Modification of a combination Eulerian-Lagrangian model for marine chemical spill,
  • Development of Eulerian-Lagrangian model tuning parameters and evaluation of parameter effects on model fine scale concentration variations,
  • Establishment of quantitative statistical methods for comparing simulation and experimental fine scale concentration variations, and
  • Demonstration of reproduction of fine scale concentration variation with a properly tuned model.
